Museum Director Rebecca Matthews and Chair of the Board Laura Hay Uggla welcomed the distinguished guests to ARoS and guided them on a tour of the museum.
“We are deeply honoured to have welcomed Their Majesties The King and Queen, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Danish Prime Minister to ARoS. It is a privilege to contribute and play a central role in the official programme of an event of such significance – and to do so with art as the unifying force,” says Rebecca Matthews, Museum Director of ARoS.
During the visit, the guests experienced the magnificent work The Dome, a Skyspace by James Turrell, which will crown ARoS’ visionary museum expansion The Next Level. The expansion includes the newly inaugurated subterranean Salling Gallery, which opened to the public on 20 June, and a new outdoor Art Square. The Dome and Art Square are expected to be completed in 2026.
“It was a great pleasure to share with our guests how ARoS combines artistic excellence, architecture, and deep audience engagement to offer experiences worthy of an international art museum. Hosting Europe’s leaders here – in the midst of ARoS’ historic transformation – stands as a powerful symbol of the vital role culture plays in shaping our shared future,” says Laura Hay Uggla, Chair of the ARoS Board.
The visit was concluded with a walk through Olafur Eliasson’s iconic installation Your rainbow panorama, offering spectacular views of Aarhus in vivid colour.
